Jorge Luis Prats

Jorge Luis Prats was born in Camagüey, Cuba, in 1956. In Havana, he studied at Escuela Nacional de las Artes under César Pérez Sentenar, Bárbara Díaz Alea, Margot Rojas and Alfredo Díez. In 1977, he won first prize at the Long-Thibaud-Crespin Competition in France. Once he graduated, he was granted for studying at the renowned Tchaikovsky Music School in Moscu under Rudolf Kerer, and continued his studies in Paris (Conservatoire Supérieur de Musique et de Danse) and Vienna (Hochschüle für Müsik und Kunstler).

Prats was Artistic Director of the Orquesta Nacional de Cuba between 1985 and 2002. As a teacher, he is regularly invited by relevant institutions as Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, Universidad Nacional de Colombia in Bogota, Escuela Nacional de Artes in Havana or Conservatorio de Córdoba (Spain).

In 2008 he made his highly applauded debut at “Meister Pianisten” in Amsterdam and, since his performance at “Piano aux Jacobins” Festival in Toulouse, he has regularly been invited to the most acclaimed French piano events, as “Les Grandes Interprètes” (Lyon), Grand Theatre (Aix en Provence) or “Piano 4 Etoiles” (Salle Pleyel, Paris).

His discography includes recordings of Chopin, Grieg or Shostakovich’s piano concerts for companies as Pathé Marconi (EMI France), Deutsche Grammophone (Germany), ASV, IMP (United Kingdom) or Musical Heritage (USA).
